India may not meet millennium development goal on infant mortality

India’s infant mortality rate fell from 88 per 1000 live births in 1990 to 40 per 1000 live births in 2013, show reports from the Registrar General of India.1 But if the rate continues to decrease by 5.6% each year India will not be able to meet this year’s United Nations millennium development goal on infant mortality.
