After a bitter battle, California has ended vaccine exemptions on the basis of religion or personal belief. Under the new law, signed by Governor Jerry Brown on 30 June, unvaccinated children in the state will not be allowed to attend school, day care programs, and nurseries, unless they have a medical reason, such as an allergy, for not receiving a vaccination. Previously, just two other US states, West Virginia and Mississippi, limited exemptions to medical reasons.  

Fresh frozen plasma is obtained from whole blood from blood donors. It contains a number of factors that help blood to clot. The risk of bleeding in open heart surgery or surgery on the main blood vessels in the body is high. Fresh frozen plasma is sometimes administered to these patients to reduce bleeding. It can be administered prophylactically (to prevent bleeding) or therapeutically (to treat bleeding). However, there are risks of side effects from fresh frozen plasma, such as severe allergic reactions or breathing problems.  

Fish and fish oil are the major sources of omega-3 long chain fatty acids. Dietary marine omega-3 fatty acid supplements during pregnancy may change the immune system of the newborn before allergic responses are established, particularly for those with a genetic predisposition to the production of the immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibody. Individuals with IgE-mediated allergies have both the signs and symptoms of the allergic disease and a positive skin prick test (SPT) to the allergen.
